Top cops in trouble over Jethwani case?

The Andhra Pradesh government led by chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday ordered an inquiry into the alleged torture of Mumbai-based actress Kadambari Jethwani and her family members by the Vijayawada police at the behest of YSR Congress party leader Kukkala Vidyasagar in February this year.

On the instructions from the government, NTR district police commissioner Rajasekhar Babu appointed assistant commissioner of police of central crime station K Sravanthi Roy as the investigating officer to probe into the Jethwani case and the involvement of top cops – including Vishal Gunni and Kanti Rana Tata.

Sravanthi Roy quickly entered into action and is bringing Jethwani from Mumbai to Hyderabad and from there to Vijayawada by late in the night. Along with Jethwani, her family and lawyers are also coming to Vijayawada, sources said.

The investigating officer has already obtained an online complaint from her and once the actor comes to Vijayawada, the police will record her statement. Readmore!

“We are examining the case in all angles. We shall probe the role of various people, including senior IPS officers. We are collecting all the details using technology and submit a report to the DGP within four or five days,” the police commissioner said.

According to media reports, the Vijayawada police booked a case against Jethwani at Ibrahimpatnam police station near Vijayawada, based on a complaint by Vidyasagar, who had allegedly promised to marry Jethwani in the past and later ditched her.

A team of police officials led by Vishal Gunni went to Mumbai in flight and brought Jethwani and her mother to Vijayawada.

They were allegedly kept in a guest house of Vijayawada Thermal Power Station for three days from February 3 and tortured Jethwani and her mother for three days. Later, they were produced in the court and subsequently remanded to judicial custody till March 20.

Jethwani said it was only after she signed on a few blank papers, she was let off and the cops had threatened her of dire consequences if she continued to pester Vidyasagar.

More details are expected to come out during the course of investigation.
