Tirupati, N'sagar by-polls on April 17

The much-awaited by-elections to Tirupati Lok Sabha seat in Andhra Pradesh and Nagarjunasagar assembly seat in Telangana are going to be held on April 17 and the results would be declared on May 2.

The Election Commission of India announced the schedule to this effect on Tuesday evening to fill up these vacancies. The model code of conduct will come into effect in these constituencies with immediate effect.

Besides these two, by-elections to Belgaum parliamentary constituency in Karnataka and 13 other assembly constituencies in various states like Gujarat, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Mizoram, Nagaland, Odisha and Uttarkhand will also be held simultaneously.

According to the schedule, the notification for the by-elections will be issued on March 23 and the last date of nominations is March 30. Scrutiny of nominations will be held on March 31 and the last date for withdrawal of nominations is April 3. Readmore!

The by-election to Tirupati parliamentary seat in Andhra Pradesh is necessitated due to the death of sitting MP of YSR Congress party Balli Durgaprasada Rao due to Covid-19. 

Similarly, the by-polls to Nagarjunsagar assembly seat are being held due to the death of sitting Telangana Rashtra Samithi legislator Nomula Narasimhaiah.
