Tenet: Best opening day collection post-lockdown

‘Tenet’, director Christopher Nolan’s big-budget Hollywood feature film starring John David Washington, Robert Pattinson and Dimple Kapadia, has recorded a good start at the Indian box-office.

The espionage-thriller, which released in theatres in the country on Friday, recorded the best collections and response any film has seen since the reopening of theatres in October.

According to reports on BoxofficeIndia.com, the film earned an estimated Rs 1.1 crore to Rs 1.2 crore nett on its opening day.

Although lower than the collection a big-ticket film would normally collect, it has still garnered the best response from the audience amidst an ongoing COVID-19 threat. Readmore!

With business down around 60-70% from pre-covid times, trade experts noted even lower footfalls of up to 90% in regions with other releases thus far.

Although the turnout was not so strong on day 1, it was reported that half of the collections from the first day was acquired through advance bookings.

There were many shows which had a turnout of 100 plus people with some IMAX screenings getting to the capacity which is permitted now.

India is among the last countries where 'Tenet' has released, owing to the closure of cinemas.

The film premiered in the UK on August 26 and the US on September 3. It was appreciated by the critics and surpassed general expectations as far as the opening weekend predictions were concerned.

The film’s box-office performance early this year reportedly forced other Hollywood biggies like ‘Wonder Woman 1984’, the Bond thriller ‘No Time To Die’, Marvel’s ‘Black Widow’ to push their releases.

Nolan's new film is a spy action thriller that takes one on a time-bending mission with two secret agents, essayed by Pattinson and Washington.
