It appears that the Congress party in Telangana is digging its own grave, despite survey reports that suggest it has brighter chances of coming to power in the next assembly elections to be held in November or December this year.
The Congress leaders in the state are following the typical crabs-in-a-jar story. If one crab tries to reach the top of the jar, other crabs try to pull it down into the jar again. The same is the case with the party leaders in Telangana.
At a time when Pradesh Congress Committee president A Revanth Reddy is trying his best to rejuvenate the party and revive its chances of winning the next assembly elections, other Congress leaders, particularly seniors, are playing spoilsports with his efforts.
The latest comments made by former home minister and veteran Congress leader K Jana Reddy, that the Congress might have to have an electoral understanding with the Bharat Rashtra Samithi in order to prevent the Bharatiya Janata Party from coming to power, are a classic example of how the Congress can ruin its own chances.
First, such comments clearly indicate that the Congress sees the BJP as a bigger force that has a chance of coming to power.
Secondly, they indicate a lack of confidence within the Congress that it cannot come to power on its own.
Thirdly, it shows that the Congress leaders are eager to have an alliance with the BRS and not vice versa.
Fourthly, such comments give a new weapon to BJP leaders, who are now saying that the Congress and the BRS have a secret nexus.
BJP state president Bandi Sanjay has already said that the Congress and BRS would fight the elections together and any vote for the Congress would go only to the BRS.
"This would mean the BJP will try to ensure that every anti-establishment vote goes to it, and not the Congress," an analyst said.
What more evidence is required to say that the Congress has ruined its own chances?
