Telangana Cong leaders to campaign in Andhra?

The Congress party high command is understood to have asked some of the senior party leaders in Telangana to campaign for the party in the neighbouring Andhra Pradesh as well, in the upcoming elections in the state.

The high command, which is working out the list of some star campaigners for the party in Andhra Pradesh, is planning to include some senor leaders of Telangana in the list and entrust them with the responsibility of campaigning in select assembly and Lok Sabha constituencies.

These star campaigners from Telangana include a few ministers and other senior leaders from the border districts like Nalgonda, Khammam and Mahabubnagar. Especially those who have strong connections with the Andhra and Rayalaseema leaders will be preferred, sources said.

Going by the discussions in the party, plans are being drawn to deploy these star campaigners to campaign in batches in the neighbouring State.  Readmore!

“It is in the initial stages and a lot of coordination meetings have to be conducted to finalise many aspects,” a media report, quoting a Telangana minister said.

With the Congress winning the elections in Telangana and Karnataka, now the All India Congress Committee is keen on regaining its lost ground in Andhra Pradesh, though it is difficult to expect to win any seats in that state.

“It’s okay if the party may not win any assembly seats, but the high command is keen that it wins at least a couple of Lok Sabha seats as it helps boost the party at the national level,” sources said.

During the assembly elections in Telangana, Karnataka Chief Minister K Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shiva Kumar had campaigned extensively.

“This had helped Telangana Congress to come to power. Similarly, we are planning to campaign in Andhra Pradesh,” the Congress leader said.
