Telugu Desam Party leaders are pulling out all stops to see that their party president and former chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu is not thrown behind the bars at any cost.
Soon after the police arrested Naidu from a function hall at Nandyal town early in the morning and shifted him to Vijayawada by road, the TDP leaders began running from pillar to post to save him.
The TDP MPs Kesineni Nani and Galla Jayadev, who had been inactive in the party activities till now, suddenly became active and started using their clout to prevail upon the Centre to come to Naidu’s rescue.
While Kesineni wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Galla wrote separate letters to not only Modi, but also President of India Droupadi Murmu and Union home minister Amit Shah, seeking their intervention.
Back home, the state TDP leaders led by Andhra unit president K Atchen Naidu, former minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao and others sought the appointment of Governor Abdul Nazir to explain how the Jagan government has been harassing Naidu.
Though the Governor gave the appointment at 8.30 pm on Saturday, the TDP leaders could not meet him as they were still under arrest by the police. They got the fresh appointment at 9.30 am on Sunday.
The TDP leaders have also sent SOS messages to all the top political leaders of the country seeking their support for Naidu. Some of them like RJD leaders responded to their call and condemned the arrests.
Sources said the TDP leaders are planning to make it a big issue once the G-20 summit is over in New Delhi.
