Telangana Governor Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan on Monday announced her resignation from the post. She is learnt to have sent her resignation to President of India Droupadi Murmu this morning.
Tamilisai, who is also the Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry, reportedly quit the post as well, following a call from the Bharatiya Janata Party national leadership.
According to sources, Tamilisai has been asked to get ready to contest the ensuing Lok Sabha elections from Tamil Nadu. It is not immediately known which constituency she would contest from.
Earlier in February, Tamilisai expressed her desire to contest the Lok Sabha elections from Puducherry but said it was up to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah to decide her role.
“My desire is to be a people’s representative but I will abide by the decision of the Prime Minister and the Home Minister,” she told reporters at Puducherry on the completion of her three-year term as the Lieutenant Governor.
She hinted at contesting from Puducherry, as she always felt it was her home constituency.
