A fresh survey by NDTV and Prashnam.ai revealed that 34% of respondents believe the Telangana government misused its power in arresting Telugu actor Allu Arjun after a deadly incident at the premiere of his movie "Pushpa 2."
On the contrary almost equally, 33% of respondents opined it as a Legitimate police action.
On December 4, a stampede at the Sandhya Theatre in Hyderabad resulted in the death of a woman and injury to her son.
The incident occurred when Allu Arjun waved to the crowd from his vehicle, which allegedly provoked the crowd and led to chaos.
The police filed a case against the actor, his security team, and the theatre management.
The government faced criticism for its handling of crowd management, with 41% of this survey blaming it for neglecting safety. But on the other hand, 32% of respondents felt government is handling things well.
Despite warnings about the gathering, the actor's team took no immediate action.
The arrest sparked political debate, with BJP and BRS criticizing the state government, while Chief Minister Revanth Reddy defended the law’s impartiality.
Allu Arjun was granted bail after spending one night in jail, expressing his condolences for the incident.
On a whole, the above survey reflects that almost equal number of people in society are supporting Allu Arjun's arrest as well as opposing.
