YS Sharmila, founder of YSR Telangana Party and sister of Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, has finally become a Congress leader.
As announced earlier, she joined Congress in the presence of the party president Mallikarjun Kharge in New Delhi on Thursday. Congress senior leader and MP Rahul Gandhi and other top leaders of the party were present.
Sharmila declared that she has merged her YSR Telangana party with the Congress and she was extremely happy to be part of the party which was dearer to her father late Y S Rajasekhar Reddy.
“I am ready to play any role that the party gives me. I will work for the uplift the party in whatever capacity I can with utmost dedication and commitment,” she said.
That Sharmila is going to play a major role in the Andhra Pradesh Congress was evident from the way AICC in-charge of AP affairs Manickam Tagore and APCC president Gidugu Rudraraju attended the event where she joined the party.
Sharmila said that YSR was a great Congress leader, who strived day and night for the party all through his life.
“The Congress is the only the biggest secular party in the country, which takes all sections of the society along with it,” she asserted.
Stating that Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra has created a sense of security and confidence among the people, Sharmila said she, too, was impressed by the people’s response to the yatra.
“It was my father’s dream to see Rahul Gandhi as the Prime Minister of the country and I shall strive for the same,” she added.
