These days, having a social media account has become a must for any politician to air his or her views on any issue and react to the contemporary developments. The more the followers, the more will be the popularity of the politician.
Now that Y S Sharmila, daughter of former chief minister of combined Andhra Pradesh late Y S Rajasekhar Reddy, is all set to enter politics with a big bang, she has also decided to enter the social media, though her followers have been running their own social media accounts to highlight her activities.
On Monday, coinciding with the International Women’s Day, Sharmila opened her official Twitter account and made a debut by greeting the womenfolk on the occasion. The name of her Twitter handle is: @Realyssharmila
“Anninta Manam, Anninta Sagam, Prapancha Mahila Dinotsavam Saakshigaa Ide Mana Sankalpam (We are everywhere, we are half of everything. This is our resolve on the occasion of International Women’s Day) #InternationalWomensDay,” Sharmila said in her first message.
Later, Sharmila hosted women’s day celebrations at Lotus Pond on the occasion of International Women’s Day.
Speaking on the occasion, she made some sharp comments on the Telangana Rashtra Samithi government.
Stating that women had a lot of importance in the Telangana society, Sharmila said they had taken inspiration from Rani Rudrama Devi in waging a war against the oppression on par with women.
“But in the present government, what kind of role are women playing? What is their representation?” she asked.
Sharmila alleged that injustice was being meted out to womenfolk in Telangana which was formed after a protracted struggle.
“The ruling TRS has miserably failed in giving due representation to women. During YSR government, there were several women ministers, but in Telangana, only two women got the opportunity, that too, after a gap of more than five years. Why is this discrimination?” she asked.
Sharmila said right from representation in the legislative bodies to employment opportunities, women were not getting their due in Telangana.
She demanded that there should be an exclusive quota for women in all fields, and added that she would ensure equal justice to women in all the activities that she was going to take up in future.
