Sawang out, KVRN Reddy is new DGP of Andhra?

If the reports emanating from the power corridors of Andhra Pradesh are correct, senior IPS officer Gautam Sawang is going to step down as the Director General of Police of Andhra Pradesh.

In his place, another senior IPS officer Kasireddy Venkata Rajendra Nath Reddy, better known as KVRN Reddy, is going to be appointed as the new DGP. Orders to this effect are expected to be issued anytime, sources said.

Reddy, a 1992-batch IPS officer, is at present the Director General of Police (Intelligence) and had been in the post since May 2020. He maintains a very low profile.

Sawang, the 1986-batch IPS officer of Andhra cadre had been functioning as the DGP since YSR Congress party president Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy took over as the chief minister in May 2019. It is not immediately known why Sawang is being shown the door for now. Readmore!

He is considered to be very close to Jagan and had been the main target of the TDP right from the day one for the alleged witch-hunt of the party cadres. The TDP has been demanding the sacking of Sawang for quite some time.

KVRN Reddy earlier worked in various positions as DCP East Zone in Hyderabad, Vijayawada Railway SP and also as Vijayawada City Police Commissioner.

Before taking over as the intelligence chief, he held the posts of Director General, Vigilance and Enforcement and Ex-Officio Principal Secretary to Government, GAD.
