When any opposition MLA quits his party to join the ruling party, the common excuse he would give is that he is compelled to defect for the development of his constituency, because a ruling party leader has the advantage compared to the opposition.
But if a former MLA from the opposition party quits his party, he cannot give that excuse, because the constituency is anyway represented by the ruling party. Yet, if such candidates find strange excuses to jump the fence into the ruling party.
Take the case of former YSR Congress party MLA from Pithapuram Pendem Dorababu, who resigned from the party on Wednesday.
In fact, he was sulking when he was denied the party ticket from Pithapuram and the ticket was given to Vanga Geetha to fight against Jana Sena Party president Pawan Kalyan.
He should have resigned from the party then itself, like many others did, but he stayed back after being promised a good position if the YSRCP comes back to power in the last assembly elections.
Now that the YSRCP lost the elections and Pawan Kalyan focussing on the development of Pithapuram constituency, Dorababu realised that he had no future if he continued in the YSRCP.
So, he announced his resignation from the party. But the strange excuse he had given for his decision was that he cannot develop his constituency if he continued in the YSRCP and he wanted to work for the betterment of his constituency people. So, he would be joining any one of the partners of the National Democratic Alliance.
The question is how can Dorababu develop Pithapuram, if he joins the NDA? It is represented by Pawan Kalyan, who is already focussing on the same.
Secondly, as long as Pawan Kalyan represents Pithapuram, Dorababu has no chance to contest the elections there again.
It would have been better had Dorababu been candid in admitting that he had quit the YSRCP to join the NDA for his own better political future, instead of making claims that it was for the betterment of the people.
