This week, moviegoers are experiencing a flood of small films, with half a dozen releases happening simultaneously.
Following this crowded week, there is a notable absence of new films until the Dussehra week. After that no prominent films are seeing light until December which is quite peculiar.
This week's lineup includes "Month of Madhu," "Rules Ranjan," "Mama Mashchindra," "800," "Mad," and "Chinna."
"Month of Madhu" appears to be on track to become a cult classic, with Colors Swati taking on a unique role, alongside another female character. Naveen Chandra's multifaceted character is also pulling attention in the trailer. It sounds to be serious content.
"Rules Ranjan" boasts a chart-topping song, "Sammohanuda," and Neha Shetty's presence is a significant asset. Kiran Abbavaram's comedic performance adds further intrigue to the film. The trailer enticed the audience. This film proves to be the enjoying more pull factor among all the six films of the week.
"Mama Mashchindra," on the other hand, seems to be the least hyped among the releases, with little information available about its content. The trailer failed to generate much buzz, and its prospects after release remain uncertain, despite some faith in director Harsha Vardhan.
"800" is a cricket biopic about Muttiah Muralitharan, encompassing a wide range of content. However, the film's success might largely hinge on cricket enthusiasts' interest in Muttiah's story, as it appeals primarily to a youthful audience.
The allure of "Mad" lies in the fact that Nitin, the brother-in-law of young tiger NTR, plays the lead role. The film also features Jati Ratnalu Anudeep, known for his comedic timing. Positive early reception for the teaser and trailer suggests that this film could benefit from word-of-mouth promotion, as youth-centric films have in the past. This is another film that is enjoying a good pull factor with target audience being the teens and youth.
"Chinna," which received acclaim in Tamil, faces challenges securing screens for its Telugu release due to the crowded films.
Overall, one or two films out of these six will pull the crowds on day-1 but not all. The rest face a challenging road ahead unless the word of mouth publicity stands at peak.
One can't help but wonder if a different release timing might have yielded different results for these films.
