The town of Punganuru witnessed multiple persons, including the police, sustaining bleeding injuries on Friday, as TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu arrived as part of his tour to irrigation projects.
The police had initially blocked the road into the town, as Naidu was scheduled to proceed directly on the highway without entering the town. However, TDP leaders and activists reached the bypass junction and attempted to remove the barricades.
The police tried to stop the TDP leaders from breaking the barricades and entering the town, which resulted in the TDP activists pelting stones at the police.
Meanwhile, YSR Congress activists also arrived at the scene and started pelting stones at the TDP activists.
In the chaos, several TDP, YSR Congress activists, and the police suffered bleeding injuries.
Chandrababu Naidu, who arrived at the scene by then, condemned the incident and accused the police of favoring the ruling party.
He questioned why the police blocked the road and inquired whether the road belonged to Minister Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy and his family.
Naidu also dared the YSR Congress leaders to face him on the road. He declared his intention to revisit Punganuru town, further complicating the issue.
