HYDRAA has been rigorously targeting many illegal encroachments near FTL and the buffer zone of lakes, as well as on government lands. But surprisingly, the bulldozers are only clearing encroachments by force in certain sections, not all.
Kumari Aunty is a woman who became popular for her roadside food stall just opposite the ITC Kohenoor in the posh locality of Hyderabad. She encroached on the land and set up her stall there, right next to the lake.
While her stall is not a permanent building but a temporary structure erected for business purposes, this is still highly condemnable according to HYDRAA.
However, her stall has not been touched so far, and her business continues to operate. Not just hers, but there are other stalls next to hers along the entire stretch, which are also illegal encroachments.
Reacting to this, a person who received a notice for his house near Durgam Cheruvu said, "Revanth Reddy previously supported Kumari Aunty when the traffic police insisted on removing her stall from the encroached area. Even now, her stall is not being touched by HYDRAA, though it is an illegal encroachment right next to the lake on government land. But he sends notices to us. Is he biased towards the poor for votebank? What kind of Chief Minister is he?"
Contradicting a point in the statement, another resident in the same region said, "Kumari Aunty is not poor. She earns Rs 1 lakh per day. We should not judge someone as poor based on their appearance. She might have started poor, but now she is quite wealthy and doesn't pay government taxes."
"Just because Revanth Reddy is supporting Kumari Aunty, the entire road has been occupied by other vendors, turning it into a slum. The credit for creating a slum in the middle of a posh area belongs solely to Revanth Reddy. These vendors do not pay taxes and sell unhealthy food. Instead of targeting residents who have been living here for 40 years and paying all their taxes to the government, why can’t these illegal food stalls be cleared?" he lamented and questioned.
"Why isn’t the iLabs building being demolished? It is situated directly in the lake. Why does HYDRAA have a soft spot for some structures?" questioned a resident.
"It is really astonishing that HYDRAA turns a blind eye to something that is clearly visible and widely known to be illegal, like that os Kumari Aunty's stall, but then goes into remote corners to search for and demolish structures. HYDRAA seems biased," said another resident.
"Not only the residents around Durgam Cheruvu lake, but also Inorbit Mall, which falls within the FTL buffer zone of Durgam Cheruvu. But it has not received any notice or faced demolition threats. If Revanth Reddy demolishes the Inorbit Mall, he might get labeled as anti-development. He is acting selectively," another person complained.
"Revanth Reddy might send a notice to his brother, Tirupati Reddy, near Durgam Cheruvu. That’s just to put on a show. He protects Kumari Aunty to stay in the good graces of the mass voters," he concluded.
Thus the discussion in the Durgam Cheruvu area has centered around Kumari Aunty's food stall, which appears to have the support of Revanth Reddy.
