Pawan Kalyan Still Needs Political Clarity

It is more than 12 years for actor Pawan Kalyan in political life, which started in 2008 with his brother Chiranjivi launching Praja Rajyam.

In 2014, Pawan Kalyan launched his own political outfit – Jana Sena – as his brother’s Praja Rajyam was merged with the Congress.

Pawan Kalyan had aligned with the BJP and TDP in 2014 and broke with them after the elections. He aligned with the Left parties and the Bahujan Samaj Party in 2019 elections citing his Left and Ambedkar orientation.

Having seen shocking failure at the elections, he moved back to the BJP immediately after the 2019 general elections.

There were several occasions when he made contradicting statements. Sometimes he said he is Left oriented politician. Sometimes he said he is attracted to the Ambedkar politics.

Sometimes he claims that he is not biased to any caste. Often he meets Kapu leaders. Again distances himself from Kapus saying that he don’t belong to a particular caste.

These contradicting views and statements only expose how confused Pawan Kalyan is.

Further continuing his confusion, Pawan Kalyan had an extended meeting with the representatives of the Kapu community at his Mangalagiri party office the other day.

Again, ignoring what all he had said several times in the past, Pawan Kalyan favoured Kapu-dominated politics in Andhra Pradesh.

The meeting and his aligning with the community, again raises eyebrows as one doesn’t know when Pawan Kalyan would say that he don’t belong to Kapus!

He is still a confused leader as he is yet to decide whether he wants to align with the caste polarisation or political polarisation. Unless he gets this clarity, it may not be possible for him to make a mark in the state politics.
