Until the arrival of the pandemic Covid 19, I rarely watched other language movies.
But after the lockdown, I am forced to watch the films of many genres irrespective of any language be it Tamil/Malayalam/Kannada. Earilied I admired Tamil cinema after Telugu and had a very low impression on Kannada and Malayalam movies. I used to think Kannada and Malayalam have no good content and they dub either Tamil or Telugu movies.
After watching a few Kannada and Malayalam movies recently on OTT, I changed my opinion and was surprised by the screenplay and narration of their movies.
Movies like Birbal / Kavaludari have a gripping screenplay and good content presented in an impressive manner. Malayalam thrillers like Forensic/ Kannum Kannum Kolllayaidithaal are a visual treat to watch. None of these movies were shot in foreign locations but only made in their native states.
Coming to our Tollywood, what kind of films are we making? What is that we have other than the money minting stars that act in the so called formula films. Why should we go for foreign shoots for every Tom Dick and Harry movie?
Why should we pay hefty remunerations to our stars and directors? They are just providing us entertrainment at a fee? We have great directors who made movies on a low budget and entertained audiences . Why can't we do it now?
I think, gone are those days when the stars used to command the industry in this OTT era. Tollywood should learn from other industries to make good content oriented movies at a low budget . Most of the audience across the world have watched several language movies in the lockdown period and understood what they have been watching in theatres all these years.
Tollywood directors should stop writing scripts keeping the stars as demigods in mind. They should come up with original writing and natural sequencing. Down the line, the entertainment industry will be ruled by mature audiences but not the teenage fans who love to do hungama in theatres. The so called fans don't find any drive to shout or whistles when they watch the films of their stars on OTTs. The mass hysteria that was seen all these years will be history now.
The stars also should leave their whims and fancies and should come down to play natural characters with sincerity.
I wish Telugu cinema will keep up its respect internationally in this post Covid era.
This is my frank opinion as an avid entertrainment lover. I request you to publish an article on this and be an eyeopener for many stars and directors.
