One More Wicket Down In Telangana Cong!

The Congress party in Telangana, which is totally beleaguered following a series of defeats in the elections in the last six years, is losing one leader after the other who are deserting the party fearing that they do not have any future.

On Wednesday, it was the turn of senior Dalit leader of the Congress party and former minister A Chandrasekhar, who has been keeping away from the party activities on the ground that he has not been involved in any activities.

Chandrasekhar, who hails from Vikarabad, declared that he was quitting the Congress and joining the Bharatiya Janata Party.

He is expected to conduct a big public meeting at Vikarabad and invite senior national leaders of the BJP to the meeting, where he would formally don the saffron shawl. Readmore!

The former minister said he had taken the decision after discussing with several intellectuals, followers and supporters, who felt that there was no future for him in the Congress party, which was fast losing public support.

Chandrasekhar started his career originally with the Telugu Desam Party and was elected to the state assembly from Vikarabad. Later, he shifted his loyalties to the Telangana Rashtra Samithi and played a key role in the party.

He was one of the six ministers in Y S Rajasekhar Reddy cabinet along with Nayini Narasimha Reddy, T Harish Rao, S Santosh Reddy, Capt V Lakshmikantha Rao and G Vijayarama Rao in 2004. So much importance was given to him in the party.

However, after 2014 elections, Chandrasekhar lost his relevance in the party as TRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao began encouraging new characters. As a result, he joined the Congress party, but he was not feeling comfortable, as the party itself has been in doldrums.

Now, Chandrasekhar is planning to try his luck in the Bharatiya Janata Party. One has to wait and see whether he would get back his glory in the saffron party at least!
