Now, Centre to take up infra projects in Amaravati

In a major boost for Andhra Pradesh, the Central Government is moving forward with plans to undertake large-scale infrastructure development in Amaravati at an estimated cost of Rs 2,534 crore.

According to sources, the Centre has tentatively approved the construction of the Common Central Secretariat and residential complexes in the capital region, with a formal memorandum prepared for the proposed projects.

According to official information, the proposed expenditure includes Rs 1,299.08 crore for construction of the Common Central Secretariat and Rs 1,234.91 crore for development of residential complexes.

The file related to the project is currently awaiting final clearance from the Cabinet Secretariat, which is considered the last major administrative hurdle before implementation. Readmore!

Sources indicated that the process for securing approval has entered the final stage, and the proposal is expected to move forward quickly once the pending file is cleared.

The Andhra Pradesh government has already submitted to the Cabinet Secretariat the gazette notification recognising Amaravati as the state capital, which is considered an important procedural step for central approvals.

There is now a strong possibility that the proposal could receive approval in the next Union Cabinet meeting.

The project has reportedly already received approval from Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, after the file was forwarded by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.

During the preliminary discussions on the project, 22.53 acres of land in Amaravati was earmarked for central government infrastructure.

The proposals for land allotment were submitted to the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) for the development of the central government projects, including 5.53 acres for the Central Secretariat building and 17 acres for residential complexes.

Once the Cabinet Secretariat grants clearance, the construction of central government offices in Amaravati is expected to gather momentum.

According to sources in Delhi, the proposal has a fair chance of receiving a green signal in next week’s Cabinet meeting, which would mark a significant development in the revival and institutional strengthening of Amaravati as the capital city.
