NHRC Issues Notices To AP On Raghuram Issue

The National Human Rights Commission had issued notices to the AP government on the arrest of Narasapuram MP K Raghurama Krishnam Raju.

The NHRC responded to the complaint given by Raghurama Krishnam Raju’s son Bharat, who alleged illegal arrest of his father and torture by the police.

The NHRC had set August 9 as deadline for the state government and the police to give a report on the arrest of the MP.

If the government fails to give the report by the deadline, the NHRC cautioned that it would summon the senior officials for its next meeting on August 16.  Readmore!

The notices were sent to DGP Gautham Sawang and chief secretary Adityanath Das, seeking detailed report on the arrest of the MP.

The NHRC had earlier sought the report from the state government and set June 7 as deadline.

As the government failed to respond, it had issued notice with serious remarks.

It may be mentioned here that the AP CBCID police have arrested the MP on charges of sedition.

The MP and his family members alleged torture by the CID police while he was in their custody.

The Supreme Court had granted him bail, after the initial treatment in the Secunderabad’s Military Hospital.
