The YSR Congress party government headed by Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy is learnt to have decided to make drastic changes in the master plan for the new capital of Amaravati in order to bring down burden on the state government.
According to highly placed sources, Jagan told the officials of the AP Capital Reconstruction Development that there was no need to have the capital in such a huge area and it could be restricted to only those buildings and infrastructure required for an operational capital.
He reportedly suggested that the master plan could be reworked in such a way that only government buildings like Secretariat, assembly, high court and residential quarters for ministers, MLAs, judges and bureaucrats could be there in the capital region.
“After keeping the land required for this core capital region, besides infrastructure facilities like roads, power supply, drainage and greenery, the remaining land could be returned to the farmers. All the villages in the capital region don’t have to be disturbed,” sources said.
The chief minister is understood to have given green signal for the ongoing constructions, after reworking the tenders and complete them in a specified time.
“Already, the previous government had made huge borrowings and there shall be no more loans. The World Bank loan can also be rejected,” Jagan told them.
He also ordered reviewing of land allocations made to various institutions.
“Those who have already commenced their work would be allowed to continue and those which did not start the projects would have to surrender their lands,” sources said.
