Taraka Ratna's wife to enter politics?

Speculation is rife about the possible political entry of Alekhya Reddy, wife of late Nandamuri Taraka Ratna, following her recent remarks in a media interview in which she spoke about her political background and future plans.

After the sudden death of Nandamuri Taraka Ratna a couple of years ago, Alekhya has been maintaining a low profile.

However, she has remained active on social media, frequently sharing posts about her husband and their children.

In the latest interview, she spoke about her family’s long association with politics, noting that both her own family and the Nandamuri family have historically been active in public life. Readmore!

Alekhya recalled that her grandfather was associated with the Congress and was reportedly close to former Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy.

She also mentioned that one of her relatives had contested elections from the Telugu Desam Party.

Additionally, she revealed that she grew up closely with relatives of former YSR Congress Party general secretary V Vijayasai Reddy, describing them as people with whom she shared a strong bond during her childhood.

Alekhya said that since many members of her family were deeply involved in politics and had little time for family life, she had earlier discouraged Taraka Ratna from entering politics despite his interest.

While stating that she has not actively considered a political career so far, Alekhya indicated that she might consider entering politics in the future if circumstances permit.

Her comment — “Since I come from a political family, I may enter politics someday” — has sparked fresh debate about her potential role in public life.

Now, the question is which party she might join. With close personal connections across political circles, including leaders associated with both the Telugu Desam Party and the YSR Congress Party, observers say her eventual choice could carry political significance.

Another factor adding to the speculation is the continued support extended to Alekhya’s family after Taraka Ratna’s death by leaders such as N Balakrishna, a TDP MLA, and YSRCP leader Vijayasai Reddy.
