Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, during his Delhi visit, talking to media, praised N. T. Rama Rao as a pride of Telugu people.
He stated that NTR deserves the Bharat Ratna and reaffirmed his promise to install an NTR statue at Ameerpet in Hyderabad.
Revanth also recalled that the Congress government had earlier installed NTR’s statue in Parliament, calling it proof of the party’s respect for his legacy.
Despite being a Congress leader, Revanth Reddy appears more enthusiastic about promoting the legacy of N. T. Rama Rao, the very man who founded the Telugu Desam Party in 1983 to deliver a political death blow to the Congress in united Andhra Pradesh.
NTR remained firmly and consistently opposed to Congress throughout his political career, building his entire movement on anti-Congress ideology and Telugu self-respect.
For a sitting Congress chief minister to aggressively champion NTR’s statue and Bharat Ratna demand raises serious political questions.
If Revanth Reddy truly wished to highlight Congress legacy in Telangana, he could have spoken about statues or memorials for stalwarts like Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, Marri Chenna Reddy, or P. V. Narasimha Rao.
These leaders shaped Congress history in the state and at the national level. Instead, he seems focused on glorifying a rival party icon.
Unsurprisingly, social media is rife with comments branding him a “congress face with TDP heart”
Such perceptions, whether fair or not, reflect growing confusion among party cadres about where his true political loyalties lie.
