Naidu's '20 Lakh Crore Jobs' Sparks Meme Storm

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu found himself at the centre of a social media storm after his recent interaction with NDTV at the World Economic Forum in Davos.

During the chat, Naidu said that since June 2024, Andhra Pradesh has received investment worth nearly ₹20 lakh crore, which are expected to create around 20 to 23 lakh crore jobs in sectors such as technology, green energy and manufacturing.

The mistake quickly went viral. Social media users pointed out that “20 lakh crore jobs” would mean around 200 trillion jobs, a number far bigger than the world’s population of about 8 billion, and even Andhra Pradesh’s population of around 5.3 crore.

The NDTV anchor’s surprised expression during the moment added fuel to the fire, turning the clip into memes, GIFs and jokes. Readmore!

Naidu’s supporters were quick to clarify that the Chief Minister was talking about investment value, not jobs.

They also highlighted that several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) have already been signed with major companies like Google and Tata Group, and that job creation will happen gradually as projects take shape.

Critics, however, used the moment to question the government’s claims, pointing to earlier promises that, according to them, did not fully translate on the ground.
