Playback singer Chinmayi Sripada strongly criticised Sivaji, stating that there was no need for a Telugu actor to offer unsolicited advice to actresses using offensive language.
“He himself was wearing jeans and a hoodie. By his own logic, shouldn’t he be wearing a dhoti and following so-called Indian tradition? If he is married, should he also wear a bindi and toe rings? This clearly reflects how women are being viewed,” she said.
Actor and television personality Anasuya Bharadwaj also responded strongly on social media platform X, posting, “This is our body, not yours. We will live the way we want.”
Speaking to reporters later at a garment store inauguration, she said, “Anyone can wear what they like. His comments suggest insecurity. Just because he says something, does that mean everyone has to listen? Food and clothing are personal choices. We should wear what we are comfortable in. His remarks are unfortunate.”
Manchu Manoj also expressed regret over Sivaji’s remarks. He said he was offering an apology on behalf of the actor, but added that such comments should not be normalised or ignored.
“There is no need to remain silent or tolerate such behaviour. Women must always be accorded respect, status and equality. Accountability is essential in matters like these,” he asserted.
Actor Navdeep, who was also present at the Dandora event, condemned Sivaji’s statements, calling them disrespectful.
“The comments made at the event were demeaning. Expressing one’s opinion in such a manner is unacceptable,” he said.
