“Akhanda 2” was scheduled to hit theaters on December 4th with paid premiere shows in India and regular premieres in the USA.
However, the release was postponed indefinitely due to a legal issue related to pending financial clearances. Four days have passed and yet there is still no clarity.
It was expected that the makers would take a decision on Monday after the Madras High Court issued the final injunction copy, but nothing has moved forward.
Although all distributors convened for a meeting on Sunday in Hyderabad, the outcome remained unclear.
The biggest challenge continues to be the repayment of finances to various lenders.
Despite producer Dil Raju (as the Nizam distributor), Balakrishna’s relative Dr. Surendra, and others holding frequent discussions, they have not found a viable solution to come out of this crisis. Hence, even on Monday, the team couldn’t announce a new release date.
Nandamuri Balakrishna and Boyapati Sreenu have reportedly compromised on their remunerations.
They were not paid in full and agreed to forgo the remaining amount to reduce the burden on the producers.
But the total liabilities owed to lenders, along with the dues linked to Eros International; which filed the case against the release in Madras High Court; exceed Rs 60 crore.
