How much did the movie Pushpa 2 cost? How much remuneration did the cast and crew receive? How much profit did the producers make? These are some of the many questions being asked.
Various figures are being circulated, but according to reliable sources, the financial details for Pushpa 2 are as follows:
The movie's production costs, including interest, totaled Rs 475 crores. This figure excludes the hero's remuneration but includes the director's initial remuneration distributed over years which is to the tune of Rs 50 Cr approximately.
Initially, the hero was set to receive 27% of the total business, but in the end, he settled for 24%, which amounts to Rs 240 crores. Thus Allu Arjun's remuneration is rounded as final at Rs 240 Cr.
When you add this Rs 240 crores to the production cost of Rs 475 crores, the total expense comes to Rs 715 crores.
The total business including the theatrical and non theatrical put together is happened at Rs 1000 Cr. So, the remaining amount is Rs 285 crores.
Half of this goes to Sukumar Writings, which is approximately Rs 140 crores. So the director's remuneration in total in Rs 140 Cr + Rs 50 (approx) that he received from last three years, which can be rounded to Rs 190 Cr approx.
So the remaining ammount now is around Rs 140 Crores - Rs 145 crores. Out of this 10% is allocated to the person managing Bunny’s affairs. This leaves the producers with a net profit of about Rs 125 crores to Rs 130 Cr.
The film was self-released in almost three-fourths of the territories. Therefore, if the film performs well, the producers will benefit from any excess revenue.
However, if the movie underperforms and the advances collected in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Overseas need to be returned, it will impact the producers' profits.
Whether the hero and director will adjust their shares under such circumstances is a matter for later discussion. For now, these seem to be the financial calculations.
The ticket prices are exorbitant and first of its kind in Indian film industry. So it should be seen if it's a right move that helps the film to breakeven faster or backfires.
