Pocso case for consoling a girl, asks Chevireddy

Former YSR Congress Party MLA Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy on Wednesday expressed surprise over a case filed against him under the POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act for visiting a minor girl from Yerravaripalem in Tirupati district who was allegedly assaulted.

“How can the police register a case against me for merely consoling a girl who was allegedly assaulted? The girl’s father called me, and I went to the village to offer support. This is nothing but a vindictive act by the NDA government,” he said.

Chevireddy stated that the police filing a POCSO case against him was incomprehensible.

“The incident occurred 21 days ago, yet now they have fabricated a case against me,” he remarked. Readmore!

He further alleged that TDP’s friendly media had spread baseless accusations after the girl’s father was called to the police station and coerced into filing a complaint against him.

“I am prepared to face the case and pursue legal recourse. Those who filed these false accusations will face the consequences in the days ahead,” he asserted.

Investigations revealed that the Tirupati police booked Chevireddy under the POCSO Act, alleging that he disclosed the name and identity of the minor girl and her family, which is a violation of legal guidelines.

The police also accused him of spreading false information on social media about the alleged rape of the minor girl on November 4, despite inquiries confirming that no such incident occurred.

According to the police, Chevireddy allegedly visited the village to exploit the rumor for political gain, further exacerbating the sensitive situation by revealing the minor’s identity.

Based on a complaint from the girl’s father, the Yerravaripalem police filed cases against Nagarjuna (A-1) and Chevireddy (A-2) under various sections of the POCSO Act, IT Act, BNS Act, and the SC-ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
