The highly anticipated boxing match between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson became a record breaking event. Netflix reported 60 million global households tuned in with 65 million peak streams.
The match which also featured Katie Taylor vs Amanda Serrano drew 50 million viewers, making it the most-watched professional women’s sporting event in U.S history.
It was streamed in over 6,000 U.S bars and restaurants setting a record for commercial distribution.
The fight held at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas attracted 72,300 attendees surpassing $18 million in gate receipts making it the largest outside Nevada.
On social media the fight dominated with #PaulTyson trending. However Netflix faced technical issues including buffering and glitches with outages peaking at 95,000 reports.
Paul and Tyson both earning eight figures, headlined the fight which was streamed for free to Netflix’s 283 million subscribers marking a significant shift from traditional pay per view boxing.
