After the video of some police personnel taking notorious activist and YSR Congress party supporter Borugadda Anil Kumar to a restaurant and providing him biryani on their way to Rajahmundry central jail a couple of days ago going viral, the government suspended seven policemen, including two sub-inspectors.
But the issue did not end there.
Following instructions from the higher-ups, the police department started probing who had offered biryani to Borugadda and the other policemen and who paid the bill for the same at the restaurant.
Since Borugadda is a remand prisoner, he would not have any money with him nor can he carry a mobile through which he could do online payment.
The police are supposed to provide food to him, as per the prison rules, but not take him to a restaurant and offer biryani.
Investigation revealed that Borugadda’s supporters had followed the police vehicle from Guntur to Rajahmundry, after his remand was extended by two more weeks. Midway, he told the police that he wanted to eat biryani.
The police happily obliged his request and stopped at a restaurant at Gannavaram. As they entered the restaurant and ordered the biryani, a local TDP worker, who was having lunch there, noticed them and captured them in his camera.
Borugadda, who noticed it, told the police, who quickly seized the phone of the TDP workers and forced him to delete the picture and the video. Later, they left the restaurant without eating biryani.
Next, they stopped at another restaurant at Eluru by-pass road and had the biryani. This time, the restaurant had CCTV cameras and their entire lunch programme was caught on camera.
Enquiries made by the higher-ups at the restaurant showed that Borugadda’s followers who were accompanying the police vehicle, paid the bill for biryani; not only that of Borugadda, but also that of all the seven policemen.
This has made the department angry and the cops were suspended!
