The winter session of the Andhra Pradesh state legislative assembly is scheduled to commence from November 11 and for the first time, the Chandrababu Naidu government is going to present the full-fledged state budget, which is valid only for the next four months.
However, the YSR Congress party, the only opposition party in the state assembly, has decided against attending the assembly session, on the ground that it would not get a chance to raise the public issues.
This was announced by none other than YSRCP president and former Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy.
The reason given by him was that there is no point in attending the assembly session when the party doesn’t get the leader of opposition status.
“When we are not recognized as the Leader of Opposition status, despite getting nearly 40 percent votes, what is the point in attending the assembly session?” he asked.
Jagan also said the ruling party would definitely not give any chance to the opposition to raise the public issue.
“They have decided not to give us the mike to speak in the assembly. Then what is the point in going to assembly?” he asked.
The YSRCP president said he would instead use the same time to go into the people and take up their issues.
“I shall raise the voice through the media,” he added.
Jagan attended the assembly session only twice – once, on the day of taking oath as the member of the assembly and secondly, during the address of the joint session of the assembly and council by Governor in July, only to boycott the speech within minutes.
