You, too, uncle? Sharmila breaks down

Remember Telugu Desam Party president and present Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu breaking down in front of reporters way back in November 2021 for alleged comments made by the YSR Congress party leaders against his wife Nara Bhuvaneshwari in the state assembly?

Well, a similar scene was repeated on Saturday when YSRCP president Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy’s sister and Pradesh Congress Committee president Y S Sharmila bursting into tears in front of the media persons, reacting on the abuses hurled on her by the YSRCP leaders over the property disputes with her brother.

What led to Sharmila breaking down before the media with a voice choked with emotion was the comments made by her uncle (brother-in-law of her mother Vijayamma) and Rajya Sabha member Y V Subba Reddy that she had absolutely no shares in Jagan’s companies.

“The companies in question were solely owned by Jagan and Sharmila was never a shareholder. These companies were established during the tenure of their father YSR, but he did not designate her as a shareholder,” he said. Readmore!

It was only on Friday Sharmila had mentioned in her lengthy letter to the YSRCP cadres that YSR had clearly mandated that all the family businesses that had been established must be equally shared among his four grandchildren.

“They did not belong solely to Jagan Mohan Reddy; Jagan Mohan Reddy is not the heir apparent or sole successor, but a mere guardian. It is his responsibility to oversee the distribution of these properties equally among the four grandchildren. YSR made his intent clear to me, my mother, and all those close to us, including Shri KVP Ramachandra Rao, Shri YV Subbareddy, and Shri Vijay Sai Reddy,” she said.

Subba Reddy rejected Sharmila’s claim, upsetting her very much.

“Well, I did not expect a positive statement from my uncle Subba Reddy in my favour, because he and his son are the biggest beneficiaries of Jagan. But I wanted to know whether he has any slightest morality in him,” she said, adding that she was not expecting a different stand from Vijay Sai Reddy either.

Sharmila asked whether Subba Reddy or for that matter Jagan, would swear on their children and say YSR had never wanted her and her children to have legitimate shares in the properties and businesses owned by Jagan.

“I can take oath on my children. Will you do it?” she asked.

On Jagan’s claim that he had moved the tribunal to prevent legal complications including cancellation of bail, Sharmila said it clearly showed that he would go to any extent to protect himself, even if it required dragging his own mother to the court or including his father’s name in the FIR of the CBI.

“My mother did not utter a word against him but must be repenting for giving birth to such a person and might have thought why she did not kill him in the birth itself,” Sharmila commented.
