The opposition parties in Andhra Pradesh often accuse YSR Congress party president and chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy of neglecting his mother Y S Vijayalakshmi and ignoring her in difficult times.
Jagan also came under sharp criticism, when he stripped Vijayamma of her post of honourary president of YSRCP two years ago, thereby keeping her away from all the party activities.
On the other hand, Vijayamma has stood by her daughter Y S Sharmila when she launched YSR Telangana Party and even addressed a few meetings with her, requesting the people to bless her daughter.
She was also seen actively involved in the marriage of Sharmila’s son Y S Raja Reddy last month.
All this is fine. But on Wednesday, Vijayamma accompanied Jagan to Idupulapaya, where he paid floral tribute to his father late YSR before kickstarting “Memanthaa Siddham” (We are all, ready) bus yatra.
She blessed Jagan and kissed him on the forehead in her typical fashion, wishing him all the best in his campaign. She also prayed the Lord Jesus to bestow him with power for a second term.
“I am handing over my ‘bidda’ to you, Jesus. You had been with my bidda when he was in troubles. You had been with him in every travail. I pray the God to bless him with success and make him the chief minister for a second time,” she prayed, according to the prayer circulated among the media.
Vijayamma’s prayer for Jagan is understandable, but one wonders what she would be wishing for her daughter Sharmila. She is going all guns blazing against Jagan and has given a call to the people to end Jagan’s draconian rule.
She also accused Jagan of shielding culprits in the murder of her uncle Y S Vivekananda Reddy five years ago. And she is going to contest the coming parliament elections from Kadapa.
If that is the case, will Vijayamma support Sharmila and conduct similar prayers for her? Let us wait and see.
