Meet and Greet with Dr. Satheesh Reddy

Dr. G. Satheesh Reddy is a household name in the defense and indigenous satellite circles. A world-renowned defense scientist led the development of numerous critical defense technologies and equipment. He is the chief architect of India's maiden successful Anti-Satellite (ASAT) test 'Mission Shakti', placing India in the elite club of four countries.

As a young navigation engineer, he developed inertial sensors, and varieties of hybrid navigation systems, which brought self-sufficiency. As a project director, developed the country’s first guided bomb and played a pivotal role in developing advanced avionics, air defense systems, air to air, anti-tank missiles, ballistic missile defense systems and drone and counter drone systems.

On the directives of Hon’ble Prime Minister, Dr Reddy has established five Young Scientist Labs (where all the scientists are below 35 years of age) in niche technology areas, promoting innovative and disruptive research. Dr. Reddy has helped foster an ecosystem that encourages free thinking and creativity. His policies and initiatives always aim at the future and put India into a leading country in the satellite programs.

During COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Reddy worked tirelessly to develop required technologies in the fight against Covid-19. With his drive, DRDO built 11 makeshift COVID hospitals having capacity of nearly 10,000 beds in various parts of the country and the first hospital was built in a record 11 days’ time.

Under his supervision, DRDO has effectively utilized the spin-off technologies for combating the Covid-19 pandemic through the realization of more than 900 Medical Oxygen plants, 30,000 ventilators. He is the first Indian in over 100 years to be conferred with the prestigious Honorary Fellowship and Silver Medal by the Royal Aeronautical Society, London.

Prestigious awards are not uncommon for Dr. Reddy, and he is often considered in the league of Homi Bhabha, Dr. Kalam, Nambi Narayan et al.

Dr. Reddy is also a big-time philanthropist and as a promoter of rural development, education, and healthcare support in villages, he contributed remarkably for philanthropic causes. With the help of government and local administration, he facilitated the construction of roads, schools, and hospitals. He adopted his home village and few more villages around, in rural part of Andhra Pradesh and sponsored constructing multiple roads to the village, hamlets, farming fields and various parts within the villages.
