While the Hollywood biggies are minting money in the USA, Telugu films are struggling to post respectable numbers. For the third week in a row, new releases have failed to attract Telugu audiences.
Last weekend saw the release of Gopichand and director Maruthi’s “Pakka Commercial”.
The film saw strong numbers for a Gopichand starrer on the premiere day with $43k and the day one witnessed another $30k. But the reviews and negative word-of-mouth have affected the film, and it ended the first weekend with just $100k gross.
Despite the Independence Day holiday period, “Pakka Commercial” didn’t gain much.
Gopichand’s highest grosser in the USA is “Saahasam” (lifetime gross of $188k). The lifetime gross of his recent release “Chanakya” was just $20k. So, the $100k gross of “Pakka Commercial” is the best figure for Gopichand in recent times.
Kamal Haasan’s “Vikram” almost ended its run. It stands at $2.8 million.
