The rumblings in Bharatiya Janata Party’s Telangana unit following defection of former health minister Eatala Rajender and others seem to have subsided, at least for now following the involvement of top leadership.
There was a talk that former minister Enugala Peddi Reddy, who had in the past defected from the Telugu Desam Party into the BJP, would quit the party and join the TRS, as he feels Rajender’s entry would seal his fate in Huzurabad constituency.
Peddi Reddy had a meeting with his followers in Huzurabad on Wednesday to decide on his future course of action, but surprisingly, he did not stage any revolt against the BJP but decided to continue in the party, for now.
He said anybody, not just Rajender, could join the BJP.
“Even if TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao wants to join the BJP, we shall welcome him. The party is bigger than individuals,” he said.
The former minister, however, said he was ready to contest from Huzurabad if given a chance.
“The party will consider the candidatures only at the time of elections. Not just Rajender, many other BJP leaders are ready to contest from Huzurabad. Even I am ready,” he said.
Peddi Reddy said he had not met the TRS president till now. “I don’t even know where his farm house is. I don’t have any plans to join the TRS,” he clarified.
