Andhra Pradesh Drops Vaccination For 18+

The Andhra Pradesh government had dropped the national call to vaccinate all citizen above the age of 18 years.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had given the call to all the states and union territories during his interaction with the chief ministers and the lieutenant governors in the last week of April.

The AP government had prepared the action plan to vaccinate all the people and alerted the village and ward secretariats to shoulder the responsibility.

The programme was to start on May 1. However, shockingly the state ran out of stocks of the vaccine doses two days ahead of the launch.

The state government found that the vaccines were not available while people started turning at the vaccine centers in large numbers.

Unable to match the people to be given doses and the available vaccine, the government had decided to drop the plan and restrict its original plan to cover all people above the age of 45 years.

Meanwhile, chief minister Jagan Mohan Reddy had decided to write to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a day or two seeking more doses of the two vaccines to the state.

The AP government had decided on giving vaccine to the people at all the government hospitals and the primary health centers both in the rural and urban areas, besides some select private hospitals.
