B Tech Ravi Resignation, Just A Drama?

It has been nearly two weeks since Telugu Desam Party’s member of the legislative council from Kadapa district Mareddy Ravindranath Reddy, popularly known as B Tech Ravi, tendered his resignation from his post, in protest against at the assent given by Andhra Pradesh Governor Biswabhusan Harichandan to the three capitals bill and APCRDA abolition bill.

Ravi, who described the three capitals bill as ‘undemocratic,’ declared that there was no point in continuing to serve as a public representative in the state legislature when the government was going against the people’s aspirations.

Ravi dashed off his resignation letter to TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu, apart from offering to submit the same in the prescribed format to Legislative Council Chairman Mohammad Ahmed Sharif.

It is not exactly known whether the TDP MLC had met the Council Chairman and handed over the resignation letter. If he had done so, there was no reason why Sharif had not accepted the same immediately as it was in the prescribed format.

If he had sent the letter only to the TDP president, it did not carry any value, unless the latter forwarded the same to the legislative council chairman asking him to accept the same.

On the face of it, it appears the resignation by B Tech Ravi was just a drama since there was no information about the same after August 1. Neither Ravi has been talking about it nor has the legislative council chairman taken any action on the same.

It may be recalled that B Tech Ravi had won the MLC seat by defeating strongman late Y S Vivekananda Reddy, after his name was proposed by former Ministers C Adinarayana Reddy and P Ramasubba Reddy, both from Jammalamadugu.

While Adinarayana Reddy switched over to the Bharatiya Janata Party soon after the 2019 general elections, while Ramasubba Reddy defected to the YSR Congress party recently. Ravi remained in the TDP for the sake of MLC post.
