Jagan Pre-Empts TDP Plan In LG Polymers Case!

YSRCP president and Andhra Pradesh CM Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy on Tuesday night took swift action in the LG Polymers case within a day of the expert committee submitting its comprehensive report blaming the company management for its negligence in the leakage of poisonous Styrene vapour from its plant on May 7.

Without giving any scope for the opposition Telugu Desam Party to make an issue out of it, the Jagan government got the managing director (MD) and CEO of the LG Polymers Sunkey Jeong and technical director D S Kim – both from South Korea – along with 10 others arrested.

Though the police had formally registered a case against the company on May 7 itself, the police did not arrest the accused, since the government has to establish their role in the accident.

It had appointed an expert committee led by special chief secretary Neerabh Kumar Prasad, which investigated into the matter in detail and submitted a 4,000-page report on Monday.

Even before the opposition started making it an issue, the Jagan government ordered the arrest of the company authorities responsible for the incident.

All the accused are being produced before the court for judicial remand. Case is under investigation as reports from various departments have to be received and examination of witnesses.

What is more, within hours after the arrest of the LG Polymers officials, the state government also suspended deputy chief inspector of factories KBS Prasad for his negligence in inspecting the LG Polymers plant to check the tank area to find out any potential hazards in its design.

Besides, the government also suspended Vishakapatnam zonal environmental engineer R Lakshmi Narayana and regional environmental engineer P Prasad Rao for allowing operation of LG Polymers plant without environmental clearance and import and storage of huge quantity of styrene without verifying safety and environmental issues.
