Nama quits TDP, to contest from TRS!

As expected, senior Telugu Desam Party leader and politburo member Nama Nageswara Rao resigned from the party on Tuesday, severing his two decades long association with the party.

Nama, one of the richest MPs of his time, met Telangana Rashtra Samithi president and chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao at the latter’s farm house in Erravelli in Siddipet district on Monday night. He is expected to join the TRS later in the day.

According to party sources, Nama will be fielded as the TRS candidate from Khammam parliamentary seat.

There has been a talk for quite some time that Nama would be resigning from the TDP. He did not attend the TDP politburo meeting held a couple of days ago, thereby hinting at his resignation.

However, everybody speculated that Nama would be joining the Congress party and would contest the Lok Sabha elections on Congress ticket. In December 2018 elections, Nama contested from TDP and lost it to TRS candidate to Puvvada Ajay Kumar.

But, suddenly he met KCR and decided to contest as the TRS candidate from Khammam.

According to highly placed sources, Nama was compelled to join the TRS, following the recent CBI raids on his company - Madhucon Group, a major infrastructure company.

The CBI charged Nama with alleged diversion of funds to the tune of Rs 264 crore in the construction of a four-lane national highway project (NH-33 between Ranchi-Rargoan-Jamshedpur) worth Rs 1,151.60 crore.

Apparently, the TRS chief is said to be behind these CBI raids to arm-twist Nama. Having no other option, he had join the TRS.
