Telugu Desam Party needs a complete overhaul at all levels and has to get rid of unwanted elements, if it has to put up any fight against the YSR Congress party in the next assembly elections.
This was the advice given by former minister and senior TDP legislator from Rajahmundry (rural) Gorantla Buchaiah Chowdary to party president and former chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu.
Buchaiah, who had a 40-minute talk with Naidu at the TDP head office in Mangalagiri in Guntur district on Thursday, withdrew his plan to resign from the party and agreed to work for the strengthening of the party.
The senior MLA said there were several flaws in the running of the party and he had explained all of them in detail to Naidu.
“I told him how to fight against the ruling party with the support of genuine party workers. There is a need to understand the feelings of the party activists,” he said.
Stating that the party was replete with a number of leaders who get into and get out of the party as per their wishes, Buchaiah Chowdary said the party should get rid of such defectors.
“There is a need to completely overhaul the party with sincere party workers and long-standing loyalists. The party has to be strengthened at all levels with leaders representing different sections and there has to be a caste balancing in the party,” he said.
Buchaiah Chowdary admitted that he had thought of resigning from the party and retiring from politics because of certain developments in the party.
“But my well-wishers and friends advised me not to take such a decision but bring the issues to the notice of the party president,” he said.
The senior MLA said he had explained the situation in the party to Naidu and the latter had given him a patient hearing.
“He admitted the points raised by me and assured that he would set right all the issues within the party. He also promised me that I would get the due respect in the party,” he added.
