My Next Will Be A Pan India Film: Sudha Kongara

Made her directorial debut with a flop film Drohi, Sudha Kongara delivered a solid hit with her second film Irudhi Suttru.

The film’s Telugu remake directed by Sudha herself was a much bigger hit.

Her prestigious project Aakasam Nee Haddura was released for Diwali to overwhelming response from critics and audience alike.

Here are excerpts from exclusive interview with Sudha Kongara: Readmore!

Two big celebrations in one month- your daughter got married and your film Aakasam Nee Haddura is turning out to be a big hit. How do you feel?

I don’t know. I just went with the flow. I’m really chilled about the whole thing.

Suriya has made strong comeback with the film, after string of flops. What was his first reaction after the film received positive feedback?

Before 3 to 4 days of release, he was fully confident and said, ‘I don’t care about the result. I’m truly happy and proud to be part of this film.’ The kind of response the film is getting, we are truly amazed. Suriya is super thrilled. ‘I’m getting such massive response after 10 years,’ said he.

What’s the best compliment you received for the film?

It’s from Gopinath sir. He said he turned nostalgic while watching the film. His wife said that she couldn’t believe that I could imagine her in such a dominant character. Their acceptance of the film is my actual compliment.

I couldn’t forget what Bharathiraja sir said to me.

‘You left all of us far behind. If it’s my last film and if I die today or tomorrow, I’m really happy,’ he said.

Nandini Reddy and Venkatesh watched the film and they were like wow and complimented me saying what kind of film you have made.

Rana said he’s privileged to have worked on the film. He actually did voiceover for Telugu version.

Aakasam Nee Haddura is partially the life story Simplify Deccan founder GR Gopinath. Do you have any plans of making biopics of other legendary personalities of India?

Many youngsters out there want to listen to great and inspirational stories that have happened in this country. And this is one such story. Many such stories are to be told to the audiences out there. I’m telling this exclusively for you that my next is also a true story. It’s about one of the greatest incidents happened in our country. I don’t want to divulge any other piece of information regarding the project for now.

Will your next be a single language or bilingual film like your previous films or will it be a Pan India film?

My next will be a Pan India film. The idea is Pan Indian. The film will be done in any one of the southern languages and will be released in other languages. Language comfort is very important for me and I’m very comfortable making films in Telugu and Tamil.

Why you’re doing more films in Tamil than Telugu?

I initially wanted to do Irudhi Suttru in Telugu. But, for some reasons it didn’t work out. Then, I made the film in Tamil. Later, I remade the film in Telugu as Guru with Venkatesh. I got many offers in Telugu. But, by the time, I had committed to do Soorarai Pottru (Aakasam Nee Haddura).

Let’s wish Sudha Kongara all the very best for her future endeavors.
