Former minister and Kapu strongman Mudragada Padmanabham is extremely happy with the Jagan Mohan Reddy government lifting all the cases pending against him and the other Kapu protestors in connection with the Kapu reservation stir.
In a letter written to chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy on Friday, Mudragada expressed his gratitude to the government for lifting all the cases against him and other leaders.
He, however, regretted that he was not in a position to meet Jagan personally.
Stating that the previous Telugu Desam Party government had foisted false against the Kapu protestors for a crime which they had not committed, Mudragada thanked Jagan for liberating all of them from those cases.
Nearly 400 cases were booked against the agitators for the Kapu reservation movement, following the violent incident of burning of Ratnachal Express and attacks on the police station.
Several cases were also filed during the course of agitation between January 2016 and March 2019.
“I am extremely happy that the cases have now been withdrawn. I am not a rich man to face these cases. I had not met former CM Chandrababu Naidu asking him to withdraw the cases nor did I meet Jagan Mohan Reddy. Had I done so, I may have to face allegations that I have made crores of rupees by mortgaging the Kapu cause with the government,” he said.
He said because of this apprehension that he was not in a position to meet Jagan Mohan Reddy now even for thanks giving.
“Nobody would take up any agitation in future after seeing the kind of humiliations, troubles, turbulences and insults I had faced during the Kapu stir,” he said.
Mudragada said he was anguished for not able to meet Jagan, though many people are able to meet the chief minister for many things.
“I don’t have the opportunity. It is my misfortune,” he added.
