He stopped all elections, the parishad, panchayat and municipal elections at a stroke for six weeks.

After a year-long legal battle with the state government, Ramesh Kumar conducted the panchayat and municipal elections, before retiring on March 31, 2021.

Nilam Sawhney, who assumed the charge on April 1, 2021, issued notification for the completion of the Parishad elections.

As per the new schedule, the polling would be held on April 8 and counting on April 10.

This would mean that the new election commissioner did not take into consideration the objections raised by the opposition parties over the irregularities in the election process before March 2020.
