Modi okayed Polavaram re-tendering?

YSR Congress party government headed by chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy terminated the contract of Navayuga Engineering for construction of Polavaram major irrigation project only after taking the approval of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bharatiya Janata Party national president and Union home minister Amit Shah.

This was disclosed by none other than Jagan’s close aide and Rajya Sabha member V Vijay Sai Reddy, who is also a special representative of Andhra Pradesh government in New Delhi.

He also made it clear that both Modi and Shah had given their approval for the review of power purchase agreements signed by the previous Telugu Desam Party government with various solar and wind power producers.

“Jagan’s initiative to review PPAs and his decision to go in for reverse tendering for Polavaram project have the approval and blessings of Modi and Shah. The chief minister went ahead with his moves only after taking the approval from the two top leaders,” Sai Reddy told reporters in New Delhi. Readmore!

He said both the prime minister and home minister had extended their support to Jagan’s resolve to eradicate corruption in administration and take action against the previous TDP rulers for swindling public money.

“So, don’t go by the false propaganda of the TDP,” he said.

If what Sai Reddy revealed is true, one wonders why the Union energy ministry took serious note of the review of the PPAs and why the water resources ministry wrote strongly-worded letters to Jagan on Polavaram re-tendering.

Interestingly, the BJP leaders from national level to the state level have also been attacking Jagan for his controversial decisions.

It raises a doubt whether they were not aware of Modi and Shah’s blessings to Jagan!
