Metro mishap: KTR makes L&T to pay 20 lakh

The Larsen & Toubro Metro Rail (Hyderabad) Limited has washed off its hands by announcing a cash compensation of Rs 20 lakh compensation to the family members of K Mounika, a house wife who died when a sharp chip from the slab of Ameerpet metro rail station fell on her head on Sunday.

Mounika, 26, a homemaker from Kukatpally Housing Board (KPHB) Colony, was standing under the station on Sunday afternoon to protect herself from heavy rain, when the accident took place.

The accident triggered loud protests from the people who wondered whether the metro rail stations are really safe or not.

Telangana municipal administration minister K T Rama Rao took serious note of the incident.

He directed the Metro Rail managing director NVS Reddy to get the safety protocol to be checked thoroughly by engaging independent engineering experts across all the stations.

He also directed Reddy to ensure that the L&T pays “adequate compensation to the victim’s family’. The L&T officials held several rounds of talks with the bereaved family members and signed an MoU to pay Rs 20 lakh compensation.
