Varun Tej's latest film, Matka, a period drama based on the life of gambler Ratan Khetri, opened in theaters on November 14 but failed to make a strong impact.
Directed by Karuna Kumar, the film earned just â¹70 lakh on its opening day, marking the lowest opening of Varun’s career.
With an overall Telugu occupancy of 15.71% on Thursday, the highest turnout was reported in Visakhapatnam at 27.75%.
In comparison, Varun’s previous film, Operation Valentine, managed to open at â¹1.45 crore despite receiving negative reviews.
Set between 1958 and 1982 in Visakhapatnam, Matka explores 24 years of Vasu’s life, tracing his journey as a prominent gambler and gangster.
The film also stars Meenakshi Chaudhary and Nora Fatehi, marking her Telugu debut.
