Masterstroke: Kavitha Launches New Party 'TRS'

In what can be considered a hard punch on the BRS headed by former chief minister KCR, his own daughter and Telangana Jagruthi president Kalvakuntla Kavitha on Saturday launched a new political party, naming it as “Telangana Rashtra Sena” (TRS).

Kavitha’s move to announce her party’s name as TRS is considered a political masterstroke, virtually pre-empting her parent party BRS from returning to its original identity Telangana Rashtra Samithi, as was hinted at by her brother and BRS working president K T Rama Rao a couple of days ago.

By formally adopting the name “TRS,” Kavitha has effectively occupied the legacy space of the original TRS and grabbed the “Telangana” identity which was once associated with the BRS. It is also interpreted as a decisive strategic challenge to her father KCR.

Kavitha also disclosed the visual identity of the new party flag, emphasizing its ideological roots: The flag features yellow, blue, and green colours, representing prosperity, resilience, and agrarian strength.  Readmore!

At the centre lies a blue map of Telangana, symbolizing territorial pride and identity. The acronym “TRS” is inscribed in English within the map, reinforcing continuity with the original movement.

And Kavitha was careful in ensuring that the flag or any other image doesn’t have any pink colour or even a tinge of it, obviously to indicate that she has no connections, whatsoever, with the BRS.

Kavitha highlighted her two-decade-long association with the Telangana cause through Telangana Jagruthi, by mobilising women through Bathukamma cultural programs, which she said became a vehicle of political awakening, reclaiming Telangana’s cultural identity through folk traditions and songs  and establishing a strong grassroots base for the movement through women-led participation.

She asserted that Telangana was achieved through collective struggle but admitted that the aspirations behind the movement remain unfulfilled.
