Accordingly, the Lok Ayuktha moved its headquarters from Hyderabad to Kurnool, with temporary office in the state guest house.

The district administration is on the lookout for suitable premises to house both the Lok Ayuktha and the Human Rights Commission in the town.

The town had hosted the state capital in 1953, when the state was bifurcated from earlier Madras State.

The state government had decided to shift all the legal and judicial establishments to Kurnool to make it a judicial capital, as decided early in 2020 by the Jagan Mohan Reddy government.
