Vijay Deverakonda's much-hyped “Liger” bombed like anything at the box office.
The film created history as being one of the biggest disasters in Indian cinema. Director Puri Jagannadh has begun the process of repaying the money to distributors.
Although the film became a disaster, director and producer Puri Jagannadh made a handsome deal from Disney+Hotstar much before the release.
Based on the hype and pan-India craze about Vijay Deverakonda, and presenter Karan Johar’s brand name, Disney Plus Hotstar bought the film’s all-language rights for a whopping Rs 65 crore.
To recover the heavy costs, the OTT giant is now streaming the film on September 22nd in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam languages.
The Telugu Film Producers Guild recently imposed a new rule of not premiering any movie before the eight weeks of the theatrical release. But “Liger” doesn’t fall under this rule. The deals were closed much before.
